AMANDA S.A. DOUCETTE STEVENSON HOOD THORNTON BEAUBIER LLP www.shtb-law.com ABOUT AMANDA DOUCETTE I ama partner with Stevenson Hood Thornton Beaubier LLP in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. But more than that, I am a problem solver and a planner. In my career as a lawyer, I help my clients face challenges that feel insurmountable to them—assisting them as they navigate the complex world of income tax, GST, and employment insurance. I act on my clients’ behalf as they communicate with Canada Revenue Agency. I also offer counsel related to complex estate planning matters, and work with high net-worth business families to assist with succession planning and transition of the business, and to resolve and negotiate disputes. My work empowers clients to feel more in control of their business-related decisionmaking. I focus on clearly explaining relevant tax laws in plain English and ensuring my clients understand all their options so they feel validated and confident when choosing a course of action. I also strive for collaboration, bringing in a variety of experts on succession and estate planning to ensure my clients receive customized solutions. In addition to my Masters in Tax Law from York University, I have completed Parts I, II and III of the Chartered Professional Accountants Canada In-Depth Tax Course. I taught Wills & Estates at the University of Saskatchewan College of Law for 7 years (I won an award for teaching excellence in 2018). I was also the founding chair of the Canadian Tax Foundation’s Young Practitioner group in Saskatoon, and am an active member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners at the local and national level. I have written numerous articles about tax laws for publications including Canadian Tax Focus, Canadian Tax Highlights, and the Estates, Trusts and Pensions Journal. I am also a regular contributor to STEP Inside. My written work resulted in the 2018 Canadian Tax Foundation award for Best Newsletter Article Written by a Young Practitioner. I have also been honoured with the STEP Volunteer of the Year Award (Saskatchewan – 2018), the Cam Partridge Memorial Volunteer of the Year Award (2010), the Law Society of Saskatchewan Silver Medal (2007) and the Donald Alexander McNiven Prize (2007). In 2021, I was a co-author of the Amazon Bestselling Book “Pursuit:365” and was selected by my peers as a leading practitioner in estate and personal tax planning (The Canadian Legal Lexpert ®). I truly believe tax is fun, and that an understanding of foundational tax principles allows people to feel more secure when they make important decisions. That is why in 2020 I launched The Tax Chick Blog, and The Tax Chick Podcast, where I share thoughts and ideas about Canadian tax issues. I love talking about taxes and learning and sharing new information, and I hope to inspire others to learn more about how taxes affect them.
