They will burn bridges with their clients and their staff and they will become extinct. What do you think the future will hold for the sector? Legal technology is going change everything about the legal profession – it’s going to be fast and it will be seismic. The AI that is being developed now will eventually eliminate the tedious work that has historically been passed to junior lawyers. The AI will do the first pass of contract review and the humans will check its work. It will reduce the cost of legal advice dramatically. By legal advice becoming more affordable, young businesses will be able to get help and grow faster, with less risk. Rather than AI and other IT advances being a threat, I think this opens up opportunities for new lawyers to learn faster and to have more interesting work from day one. It does however present challenges for universities to do much of the work that law firms currently do in developing young lawyers. What does this award mean to you? I’m on a mission to change the way law firms are perceived by clients and by lawyers.
