In her practice, Maddy advocates on behalf of those who would lack access to justice but for the tool of class actions, and for the furtherance of restorative justice principles in class action resolutions. Maddy and her colleagues at Wagners believe that a valuable innovation in this type of civil litigation is the incorporation of restorative justice in appropriate cases. It lets lawyers reach beyond the traditional confines of civil litigation and enhance the benefits of resolution. Most recently, Wagners and co-counsel took a restorative justice approach in an historic $900 million settlement for survivors of sexual misconduct in the Canadian Armed Forces with a policy-focused element to benefit survivors.
The firm has advanced numerous class actions over the last dozen or so years and has represented thousands of individuals. Resolutions have been reached in product liability, institutional abuse, pharmaceutical, environmental and privacy breach class actions.
Maddy has a law degree from the Schulich School of Law (2010) and a Master of Law from the University of Cambridge (2014). She is a recipient of the Right Honourable Paul Martin Sr. Scholarship and was repeatedly recognized by the University of Cambridge for her academic achievements in her graduate work in public international law.
